New Products

Silicon Laboratories, Inc. introduces the Si474x automotive AM/FM radio receiver IC. Reported to be the smallest and most fully integrated, the receiver supports worldwide radio band requirements, including weather bands, short wave and long wave. External component count and the associated costs have been reduced 40%, according to reports.

With a printed circuit board (PCB) footprint less than 4 cm, the single-chip solution is packaged in a 4 mm by 4 mm package. It consumes less than 1/10th the power of standard tuner ICs, and automotive-grade quality is provided.

The product can support integrated algorithms, impulse noise event detection and blanking and advanced audio behavior in adverse radio environments. The features are programmable and can be customized for manufacturer and model specifications.

Sensor Products Inc.  introduces Pressurex Zero, a tactile sensor film that indicates pressure. The flexible film is used in a number of applications, including circuit board laminates and heat sinks.

It is available in thin plastic sheets of 4 mils or 8 mils and comes in eight pressure ranges from 7.2 PSI to 28 PSI. The film is placed between contacting and mating surfaces to obtain the contact surface pressure.

The film changes color according to the amount of pressure applied, and a measurement is obtained by matching the color against a correlation chart. Flexible enough to conform to various spaces, the film can measure pressures up to 43,200 PSI.

EMA Design Automation introduces TimingDesigner v9.1. The standard tool for interface timing design now has the ability to generate SDC timing constraints from timing diagrams. Users are able to visually define requirements and generate SDC to drive, place and route.

The SDC support also adds the ability to interface with FPGA and ASIC design flows. With focus on the Altera FPGA, graphical timing analysis features enable the development of SDC timing constraints for Altera devices. General productivity enhancements and updates are included.

Rogers Corporation introduces RO2808, a high-frequency laminate. The ceramic-filled PTFE material provides stability and high-frequency performance of LTCC. It has a dielectric constant of 7.6 and a low loss tangent of 0.002 or less. The laminate comes in various thicknesses up to 1 mil. RO2808 has a high moisture resistance, reliability and high-frequency performance.

LPKF Protomat circuit board plotters for in-house production. The prototyping equipment makes several different boards including single-layer, multilayer, power and RF.

The plotters allow fabrication to stay in-house, thus reducing time-to-market for new designs. The equipment can produce, test, improve and produce boards up to several times a day, and it satisfies numerous applications, such as digital-, high power- and RF-circuits. Options include masking, stencil printing and pick-and-place.

Cinch Connectors introduces an AMC compression connector for standard ATCA platform blade. The mezzanine connector meets or exceeds the newest PICMG ATCA specifications.

The connector has one-piece stamped contacts that allow for seamless carrier board to mezzanine card paths. The captured individual contacts give a low insertion force and provide support for wide board planarities and multiple card insertions.

The compressed technology allows for simplified trace routing, as well as minimizing stub-effects and reflections. The contact uses a unique plating to lessen abrasions to the mezzanine card contacts as well.
