Zuken introduces CADSTAR 11, the latest version of the company’s desktop PCB design solution. CADSTAR 11 enables technology integration with all the latest technologies. It is reported to be the most accessible design solution on the market. Features include an improved schematic symbol generation wizard to output numerous gates; supported sheet signal references for browsing through hierarchical schematics and additional interactive placement tools. An improved Design Editor reduces waste costs associated with PCB manufacturing; pins can be hidden in schematics when a symbol is connected. The PR Editor is able to improve the control of skew constraints, and it supports Native and Intelligent PDF output.
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. introduces ActiveParts Portal, an expansion of its ActiveParts online component data solution. The technology will allow PCB design teams greater access to key component information.
In addition, Cadence is partnering with SupplyFrame, Inc. to provide greater access to component information needed during the design phase. The company announced productivity-boosting technology and improvements for Cadence OrCAD Capture CIS and Allegro Design Entry CIS products.
This includes Context-aware Non-Linear Graphic Editing, schematic editing technology for dense designs. It provides a magnifying auto-zoom between focus points during editing operations. The area under the curser is magnified as the user moves within the canvas. www.cadence.com
NOVACAP introduces the X7R and X5R series, high-capacitance multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). The devices combine higher volumetric capacitance per given board area with lower equivalent series resistance (ESR). Packaged in 0402 to 1812 case sizes, the MLCCs have low ESR characteristics that are typically one to two orders of magnitude lower than alternative devices at frequencies greater than 10 kHZ. They also can use a single pick-and-place step to place high-capacitance-value devices into an array along with multiple components. Standard and custom lead frames can be affixed, increasing reliability through thermal and mechanical stress reduction. Non-standard plating finishes can possible, and the devices are RoHS compliant. Ideal for replacing polarized tantalum and electrolytic capacitors, the devices use less power. They are suitable for various applications, including digital circuits, LCD modules and power supply bypass capacitors. www.novacap.com
ERNI Electronics presents the Blind-mate MicroSpeed connector. Designed for mezzanine card applications, the connector is a 1.0-mm pitch system that employs SMT technology for data rates up to 10 Gbit/s. It is offered in 50 signal contact modules and can be used in multiples between two parallel cards without mating issues. Smaller connections can be used to shorten PCB traces, reduce PCB layers and improve system airflow. The open pin field design includes two rows of 50 signal contacts with perimeter shielding, suitable for differential and single-ended requirements. Available in the standard 1 mm and 4 mm heights, additional heights are planned. www.erni.com
CircuitMedic introduces Flextac Wire Dots, a wire tacking system. It is comprised of shapes precut from flexible, polymer film membrane that has been coated on one side with a high-pressure and electronics-grade adhesive.
The adhesive performance is not affected by high humidity. Bond strengths are reported to be higher after exposure for 7 days at 90° F and 90% relative humidity. Many chemicals, including flux-cleaning solutions, saponifiers, mild acids and alkalis, do not affect the bond.
Wires will hold through a PCB hot water wash; Flextac Wire Dots achieve the best performance at temperatures ranging between 60° F and 100° F.
Chomerics introduces Soft-Shield 4850, an EMI shielding gasket. The gasket is reported to deliver shielding effectiveness between 70 dB and 80 dB by using multi-planar Z-axis conductive foam. UL 94 V-O certified, the material provides shielding in consumer and commercial electronics, telecom and information technology applications. The material comes in precut strips and in a range of widths. Costs are reduced by the use of electrically conductive silver plated fibers optimally dispersed in low-density foam. It is available with a selectively coated pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA). Soft-Shield 4850 is RoHS compliant and has operating temperatures ranging from -40° C to 70° C. www.chomerics.com
