DegreeC presents the F600 sensor, designed for board-mounted, embedded applications in which in-situ airflow sensing is necessary. The product gives real time airflow and temperature information to prevent critical thermal situations.
 
Mounting pressure monitors critical components. PCBs are able to warn of impending shutdowns due to fan failure or air blockage. The overall velocity ranges from 0.5 m/s to 5.0 m/s, and the sensor has an accuracy of ±10% of reading. The profile remains low on the PCB because of the small footprint design (0.500 inches).
 
Small omni-directional heads mean minimal distortion of the true airflow picture. The heads can measure air velocity and airflow temperatures across the board’s surface.

SolidWorks offers numerous tools that can model such aspects as 3D printed circuit board (PCB) modeling and enclosure design. It can also perform thermal analysis to model the behavior of a design.

Agilent Technologies Inc. introduces Jivaro-for-GoldenGate, designed in partnership with edXact. The parasitic model order-reduction tool is designed for use with the GoldenGate RF simulator software. It is reported to enhance RFIC simulation speed and capacity– with negligible accuracy loss.
 
“Jivaro-for-GoldenGate fills the void between circuit extraction and simulation that results from an increase in parasitic components required to model the physical reality of circuit interconnects, substrates or packages,” explains Mathias Silvant, edXact president. Combined with GoldenGate RF, Jivaro reduces memory requirements and increases simulation speed during large parasitic-dominated, post-layout netlists.

Laird Technologies introduces the LI0201 series of ferrite chip beads. With a smaller footprint that measures 0.6 mm by 0.3 mm by 0.3 mm, the chip beads are ideal for dense, compact circuit board construction. They provide a mounting space savings of nearly 40%.

The LI0201 series provides excellent impedance versus frequency characteristics. It also has low DCR for EMI noise suppression on high-frequency or broadband digital signal lines. The beads can be placed near the EMI source or receptor of external interface, as well as the internal signal interconnection.

AVX Corporation presents the TurboCap MLC Series, small, stackable multilayer capacitors (MLCs) that increase space on printed circuit boards (PCBs). TurboCap is reported to handle high ripple current at high frequencies and power levels.
 
The series is compatible for filters in the input and output stages of DC-DC converts, as well as switch mode power supplies (SMPS). Stress relief to ceramic elements is provided by DIP leads in thru-hole or surface mount configurations. By decoupling the parts from the board, the leads can minimize thermally or mechanically induced stresses occurring during assembly and temperature cycling.
 
The TurboCap has a maximum voltage rating of 100 volts. It is available in two types: ST12 and ST20, and in a standard or high-reliability version. Featuring a X7R dielectric formulation, it has a temperature coefficient of –55° C to 125° C.
