ROGERS, CT – Rogers Corp. has named both Robert Daigle and Peter Kaczmarek senior vice presidents. Daigle will oversee leadership responsibilities for the company’s European operations and Durel division. He will continue to serve as chairman for Rogers Chang Chun Technology Co., as well as chief technology officer for the company. He has been with Rogers since 1988, holding various roles. Kaczmarek will be responsible for Rogers’ Asian operations and the company’s human resource and manufacturing services. He will continue his roles in the High Performance Foams division and IT. He will also continue to serve as a member of the board of directors for Rogers INOAC Corp. Prior to joining Rogers in 1998, he held management positions with Allied Signal and BF Goodrich.
TAIPEI, TAIWAN – It is shaping up to be a prosperous year for HannStar Board, according to DigiTimes.
The company reports order visibility has extended to the end of June and expects shipments to increase 15% to 25% sequentially for the quarter.
Notebook demand is forecast to increase in the third quarter, as new models get ready to launch.
HannStar plans to ship 57 million square feet of PCBs this year, compared to nearly 53 million square feet in 2008. According to the company, the China market will be influential in profit performance.
Shipments from its Taiwan plant are forecast to drop 28% to 3.5 million square feet, while output from the China plant are predicted to climb 11% to 53.5 million square feet, reports the company.
Monthly capacity in Taiwan is reported at 500,000 square feet, with 5.1 million square feet in China, says DigiTimes.
HannStar is ranked twenty-first on Dr. Hayao Nakahara’s NTI 100 list and is one of the top 10 PCB manufacturers in Taiwan.
TAIPEI, TAIWAN – May revenues were down for Taiwan copper-clad laminate makers, reports DigiTimes. June numbers are forecast to drop further as customers begin seasonal inventory adjustments.
Although copper prices are up 10% from May, CCL makers are hesitant to raise prices because of the weak demand, says DigiTimes. Elite Material reported May consolidated revenues fell 12% to NT$734 million (US$22.33 million) on a drop in rush orders and the appreciation of Taiwan’s currency. Taiwan Union Technology expects May revenue to fall 10%, with another 10% drop for June.

FRANKFURT, GERMANY – Dr. Marc Schweizer has been named chairman of the Association of the Printed Circuit Board Industry (VdL). Schweizer is the chairman of the board of Schweizer Electronic AG. He replaces Dr. Wolfgang Bochtler of Freudenberg Mektec Europe GmbH, whose term of office has ended.
VIENNA, AUSTRIA – The largest European-owned PCB fabricator, and a top 20 worldwide producer, AT&S, announced it is shifting production from Europe to Asia. The company stated it would also be “improving efficiency levels in Austria.”
