ANAHEIM, CA – It was a very good year for Cartel Electronics– despite the dismal economy. The PCB manufacturer saw gross sales jump 33% while increasing its capital equipment investment and expanding its workforce.
 
Cartel has been in operation for over almost two decades and serves a mostly regional customer base. Bruce McMaster, Joe Gisch and John Peters acquired the company in 2008, and under their guidance, Cartel will continue to focus on growth and customer service in 2009.
 
“We exist for our customers, we mold ourselves around their needs,” explained John Peters. “And we want to create jobs in the U.S., we want to be part of the economic solution. Our customers see that and appreciate it.”

TORONTO – Firan Technology Group Corp. (FTG) has installed a Paragon 8000 LDI system in its FTG Circuits facility to increase production of high density interconnect (HDI) products.

HILLSBORO, OR – Fiat Lux Inc. will not be intimidated by the uncertain economy. The company recently opened for business, providing laser drilling and routing services.

Fiat uses a Flex 5330 Laser Drilling System. The high-power diode pumped laser and optical system can cut copper-clad dielectrics at rates up to 15,000 vias per minute. A Web site and other services are planned for the near future.
PAINESVILLE, OH – Meritec has named Robert Sturgill vice president of sales and marketing. He will focus on expanding the company’s business, as well as organizational and strategic product development. The company manufactures high-performance cables, connectors and interconnect systems for the military/aerospace, communications, industrial, computer, medical and ATE markets.
 
Sturgill has over 24 years of experience in executive sales and marketing, including positions with Vitesse Semiconductor, Cadence Design System and Motorola. He was also chairman, CEO and president of Enigma Semiconductor.
 
“The addition of Rob Sturgill broadens our marketing presence and global reach,” said Jack Venaleck, CEO.
GHENT, BELGIUM – Ucamco has named Index Due s.r.l. as its agent, handling sales and marketing in Italy.
 
Index Due will continue to handle the full range of Ucamco products, including the SilverWriter and Calibr8tor series of laser photoplotters, the Integr8tor PCB sales solution and SmartPlate software.
 
“We have been in collaboration with Index Due in Italy for many years, but we did not have a formal agreement until now,” said Karel Tavernier, managing director. “This new agreement marks the commitment of both companies to provide stable, long-term presence for Ucamco in the important Italian PCB marketplace.”
DOVER, DE – DuPont Co. has released fourth-quarter results. It reported a loss of $629 million, compared to a $545 million profit a year ago. The company cites a $380 million restructuring charge and a decline in consumer spending for the drop in numbers.
