TAIPEI, TAIWAN – In a move that will shake up the PCB rankings,
Unimicron Technology has announced plans to acquire
Phoenix Precision Technology (PPT).
Unimicron is ranked third on Dr. Nakahara’s 2008 NTI $100 Million Club, and the acquisition is expected to shoot the company into second place, challenging Japan’s Ibiden for the top position.
The deal is scheduled for completion December 1, with Unimicron’s chairman, T.J. Tseng, remaining in office. PPT is ranked thirty-seventh on the 2008 NTI $100 Million Club.
The company’s capitalization is expected to increase to NT$15.28 billion (US$451.5 million) after the acquisition, with monthly flip-chip substrate output forecasted to climb to 30 million units.
