FRANKFURT, GERMANY -- May shipments of printed wiring boards in Germany fell 4.2% sequentially, a pair of industry trade groups reported.

Bookings rose 16% sequentially, VdL and ZVEI said.

The book-to-bill ratio rose to 0.98, meaning 98 euros worth of orders were placed for every 100 euros worth of PWBs shipped. A ratio over 1.0 is considered the sign of a growing market.

Year to date through May, German PWB fabricators report revenues are down 42%.

REDMOND, WA and TUCSON, AZ – Prototron Circuits, an industry leader in quick-turn PCBs, has named Milin Circuit Sales (MCS) as its representative in Southern California, reporting directly to Russ Adams, Prototron’s West Coast regional sales manager. 

MCS will work with Mandalay Technologies, who currently represents Prototron in that region. Each company will work with specific registered accounts. “There is a great deal of potential business in Southern California, and we really did need two sales firms to support it the Prototron way,” said Adams.

 

SHANGHAI, CHINA – Huawei Communication recently awarded the Huawei Supply Support Award for the first quarter to AT&S.

The award recognizes the company’s quick response times, flexibility and on time delivery when dealing with large volume orders. AT&S also received a top rating of A in Huawei’s Quarterly Quality Score Card, an overall supplier performance tool that focuses several factors including performance, quality and design capacity.

The company supplies high-end HDI PCBs for Huawei’s E180 3G data card. The E180 is the slimmest data card and supports the complete range of HSPA/UMTS and GSM/GPRS/EDGE network technologies.

AT&S was ranked in the top 15 PCB producers world wide in 2007, having shown steady growth over the previous three-year period.

YAVNE, ISRAEL – Orbotech Ltd. has made changes at its North American subsidiary, Orbotech Inc.

 

Ken Maylor has been named president of the company, he is replacing Adi Kahn who has stepped down to pursue other opportunities.

 

Maylor is a 17-year veteran of Orbotech, holding various positions in customer support and sales. He has been vice president of PCB sales in the Americas since 2008.

 

In addition, Margaret Duncan was recently promoted to executive vice president of operations. She will oversee customer support, operations and human resources. Duncan has been with the company for 20 years.

SURREY, BRITISH COLUMBIA – Canadian Circuits Inc. has named Michael Schoen as its sales person for Western Canada. He will report to Pam Arya, sales manager.  

Prior to joining Canadian Circuits, Schoen held key sales positions within the automotive, aerospace, design and packaging industries. In addition, he brings extensive territory management experience within Western Canada.

PETACH-TIKVA, ISRAEL – Eltek Ltd. reported second-quarter revenues fell 26% from last year to $8.4 million. Sequentially, sales were down only 11%. Read more ...
