ST. PAUL, MN – 3M Corp. reported second-quarter net income dropped 17% from last year to $783 million on a decrease in demand from the manufacturing and transportation markets. Revenue for the quarter fell 15% to $5.7 billion. In April, the company offered early retirement to 3,600 nonunion employees. It also laid off 1,200 workers during the first quarter.

SHENZHEN, CHINA – Multek and Sensitive Object have joined forces to improve Multek’s touch panel solution.
Sensitive Object, a leading provider of technologies for user interface solutions, will supply product engineering and customization services to Multek. As part of the agreement, the company will also provide production and development support for OEMs in markets such as mobile, computing, industrial and consumer devices, as well as laptop and kiosk products.
The partnership will enhance Multek’s low-cost vertical integration capabilities with the addition of Sensitive’s intellectual property in acoustical touch screen technology.
With a current customer base in China and Malaysia, the partnership will also broaden Multek’s existing LCD display offerings.

CHANDLER, AZ – Matt LaRont, president of North American operations for Isola Group SARL, has expanded his title. He has taken on the additional responsibility of global supply chain officer.
LaRont will oversee the company’s strategic supply plan, including the management of global supply contracts and supplier licensing.
He brings over 23 years of experience in the industry. Prior to joining Isola in 2004, he held various positions with Solectron Corp., Sanmina and Praegitzer Industries.
