BANNOCKBURN, IL -- North American printed circuit board manufacturers reported July shipments rose 20.7% from last year.

Shipments were up 11.3% sequentially, and 7.6% year-to-date.

PCB bookings were up 22.2% compared to a year ago, but down 5.5% compared from June. For the year, bookings are up 17.2%.

The book-to-bill ratio was 1.0, down 60 basis points from the previous month. The is calculated by dividing the value of orders booked over the past three months by the value of sales billed during the same period. A ratio of more than 1.0 suggests demand is ahead of supply, implying future growth.

“North American PCB activity firmed in July,” said Shawn DuBravac, chief economist, Global Electronics Association. “A pickup in shipments brought the book-to-bill into balance, indicating output is keeping pace with demand and demand remains strong.”
