WASHINGTON – The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has reported a strong second quarter for global semiconductor sales, totaling $179.7 billion, up 7.8% from the first quarter. For June alone, sales reached $59.9 billion, reflecting a 1.5% increase from May and a 19.6% year-over-year jump compared to June last year.

According to SIA president and CEO John Neuffer, “Global chip sales remained strong in Q2 of this year, outpacing sales from Q1 by 8% and topping Q2 sales from last year by nearly 20%.” He credited the Asia Pacific and Americas markets for driving the year-to-year gains and projected continued global growth in the latter half of the year.

Regionally, year-over-year growth in June was strongest in Asia Pacific/All Other and the Americas, while month-over-month figures showed gains in Asia Pacific and China. Sales dipped slightly in the Americas, Europe and Japan compared to May.

Data comes from the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization, compiled as a three-month moving average.
