KUNSHAN, CHINA-- Foxconn said allegations that its has polluted a major river in China are false, insisting that its printed circuit board plants here meet all local laws and regulations. The denial comes in response to a report released last week by the Institute of Public & Environmental Affairs and other nonprofit organizations that accuses Foxconn of dumping wastewater containing high levels of heavy metals.

The Foxconn campus is near the Hanputang River, which feeds the Yangtze and Huangpu rivers downstream in Shanghai. The company, along with Unimicron, is being blamed for high levels of nickel and copper found in the river.

Foxconn said in a statement that all emissions from the plant in Kunshan meet relevant laws and regulations.

The Chinese environmental protection agency is investigating, according to reports.
