FLORENCE, KY – Ticona said its long fiber reinforced thermoplastics business set global production records in the third quarter that will enable it to support the increasing demand for the metal replacement material in electronic and other applications.
Long fiber reinforced thermoplastics include Celstran LFRT and Factor LFRT. Both products can meet the needs of applications that require part consolidation, weight reduction, sound dampening and metal replacement.
Each is produced in a pultrusion process that doesn’t damage the fibers. Incorporated fibers can be glass, carbon, aramid and stainless steels. As matrix materials, nearly all types of polymers are suitable.
A new pilot line in Germany is slated to be operational in the fourth quarter.
The firm has LFRT manufacturing units in the US, Germany and China.
Ticona is the engineering polymers business of Celanese.
