AUSTIN – National Instruments offers Automated Test Outlook, a comprehensive view of key technologies and methodologies impacting the test and measurement industry.
In the report, the software company found two changes have shifted focus to improve the integration of test teams across their organizations: organizational and technical. A recent global test manager survey found the top goal for 45% of test engineering organizations during the next one to two years is to increase reuse between validation and production, says NI.
In addition, the firm says software development costs are often twice to ten times more than capital costs in most test systems today.
Each year, NI leverages its broad customer base to identify trends and industry best practices. For 2011, the company has structured the outlook into four categories. In each of these categories, a major trend that will influence automated test over the next 12 to 36 months is highlighted.
Also, the report details the most common computing nodes used in test systems: the central processing unit (CPU); the graphics processing unit; field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA), and cloud computing. IP information is also included.
