CLEVELAND, OH -- OM Group said second-quarter net income was $12.8 million, up from a loss of $35.3 million a year ago.
For the period ended June 30, net sales were $303.1 million, up 49% from last year on improved pricing, higher volumes and acquisitions.
Gross profit was $68 million (22.4% of sales), nearly double the second quarter of 2009. Operating profit was $30.3 million (10% percent of sales), compared with an operating loss of $29.5 million a year ago, which included a $35 million goodwill impairment charge.
Cash from operations was $45.7 million.
The company's specialty chemicals group saw net sales rise 24.4% to $124.4 million on higher printed circuit board demand. The unit's operating profit was $20.2 million, up from a loss of $31.8 million.
The company said end-market demand outlook for the balance of the year remains positive, with continued strength seen in electronics going into the second half.
