SAN JOSE – Sales of printed circuit board and multichip module design software fell 3% year-over-year in the September quarter, the EDA Consortium announced today.
PCB and MCM design software sales were $162.4 million for the period, EDAC added. The four-quarters moving average, which compares the most recent four quarters to the prior four quarters, decreased 5.9%.
Overall electronic design automation revenue increased 7.1% during the period to $1.96 billion. The four-quarters moving average increased 8.8%.
Computer-aided engineering revenue rose 5% to $634.7 million. The four-quarters moving average increased 2.4%. IC physical design and verification revenue was up 14% to $407.9 million, and the four-quarters moving average increased 13.9%.
Semiconductor intellectual property (SIP) revenue totaled $652.9 million, up 11.4%. The four-quarters moving average increased 19%. Services revenue was down 11.4% to $99.6 million, and the four-quarters moving average increased 3%.
“EDA revenues continued to grow in the third quarter, with IC physical design and semiconductor IP reporting double-digit growth,” said Wally Rhines, board sponsor for the EDAC MSS and chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics.
The Americas, EDA’s largest region, purchased $904.2 million of EDA products and services, an increase of 7.4% year-over-year. The four-quarters moving average for the Americas increased 10.7%. Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) sales slipped 2.2% to $290.3 million. The EMEA four-quarters moving average decreased 0.8%. Japan sales increased 8.3% to $205.2 million, with the four quarters moving average sliding 4.9%. Asia/Pacific revenue increased 11.6% to $557.8 million, and the four quarters moving average increased 17.5%.
Employment during the period rose 5.6% year-over-year and 1.9% sequentially to a record 33,430.
