SAN JOSE, CA – Sales of printed circuit board and multichip module design software was $155.3 million, down 13% year-over-year.
The four-quarters moving average for PCB & MCM decreased 3.1%, says the EDA Consortium.
Electronic design automation industry revenue increased 8.5% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2015 to $1.9 billion. The four-quarters moving average increased 8.5%.
"The EDA industry continues to show solid revenue growth in the second quarter, with double-digit growth in semiconductor IP and services," said Walden C. Rhines, board sponsor for the EDAC MSS and chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics. "CAE and IC physical design also reported solid growth. Geographically, all regions except Japan saw revenue increases, especially Asia/Pacific."
The largest category, computer aided engineering, generated revenue of $657.2 million in the second quarter, up 9.6% year-over-year. The four-quarters moving average for CAE decreased 0.3%.
IC physical design and verification revenue was $379.2 million, up 6% compared to the second quarter of 2014. The four-quarters moving average increased 10%.
Semiconductor intellectual property revenue totaled $611.7 million in the second quarter, up 15% compared to the same period last year. The four-quarters moving average increased 22.1%.
Services revenue was $103.1 million, an increase of 14.7% year-over-year. The four-quarters moving average increased 11.5%.
The Americas, EDA's largest region, purchased $870.3 million of EDA products and services in the second quarter, up 9.5% compared to the second quarter of last year. The four-quarters moving average for the Americas increased 11.2%.
Revenue in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa increased 5.2% to $305.4 million year-over-year. The EMEA four-quarters moving average increased 0.7%.
Second quarter revenue from Japan decreased 3.4% to $182.8 million compared to the same quarter in 2014. The four-quarters moving average for Japan decreased 10.4%.
Asia/Pacific revenue increased 13.2% year-over-year to $548.1 million. The four-quarters moving average increased 17.6%.
Tracked companies employed a record 32,806 professionals during the period, up 4.9% year-over-year and 2.1% sequentially.
