SAN JOSE – Fourth-quarter 2009 printed circuit board and MCM EDA software sales fell 3.3% year-over-year to $131.4 million, the EDA Consortium said.

PCB and MCM software sales were $135.9 million in the fourth quarter last year. Sales were off 1.1% sequentially, according to EDAC figures.

Total electronic design automation revenue for the fourth-quarter 2009 was $1.3 billion, up 8.1% sequentially. Year-over-year, EDA revenue declined 4.2%.

Computer-aided engineering, EDA's largest category, generated revenue of $482.3 million in the fourth quarter, down 3.9% over the same period in 2008.

IC physical design and verification revenue dropped 1% year-over-year to $293.6 million.

Semiconductor IP revenue totaled $272.7 million, down 4.5% year-over-year, while services revenue was $82.7 million, a decrease of 16.4% compared to the final quarter of 2008.
