BOSTON -- In a startling announcement, federal prosecutors in Massachusetts have filed charges against three Chinese citizens and two component distributors for conspiring to violate US law by exporting military products to China.

Prosecutors claim certain Chitron Electronics workers shipped product to China through a Hong Kong front company for more than 10 years, then lied about it. Chitron Electronics's parent, Shenzhen Chitron Electronics, was also charged.

Zhen Zhou Wu, Yufeng Wei and Bo Li face 38 counts of illegally exporting defense articles, money laundering, filing false documents and immigration violations.

The export of certain technologies are banned by the US Arms Export Control Act.
