MILPITAS, CA – Worldwide silicon wafer shipments rose 3.1% year-on-year in the third quarter to 3,313 million square inches (MSI), according to the SEMI Silicon Manufacturers Group. The increase reflects strengthening demand for 300mm wafers used in advanced logic, cloud infrastructure and memory applications driven by AI adoption.

Quarter-over-quarter shipments dipped slightly from 3,327 MSI in the second quarter, indicating pockets of softness in the market, particularly in epitaxial wafer slices. Despite the sequential decline, shipments from January through September showed a significant year-on-year increase, supported by investment in advanced fabrication processes.

Silicon wafers remain the critical substrate for most semiconductors used across modern electronics. SEMI SMG continues to support the industry with production data, market analysis, and collaboration on technical and supply-chain issues.
