SCOTTSDALE, AZ – IC Insights predicts the global IC market will grow 19% in 2021.

The first quarter IC market is expected to see a sequentially increase of 2% to $113.1 billion. If this forecast comes to fruition, it would be the first time the industry has seen a first quarter increase since a 1% growth rate was registered 10 years ago.

If the first quarter forecast is correct, and the market remains flat from the second through the fourth quarter this year, the full year 2021 worldwide IC market will register a 12% increase, the firm says. If IC Insights’ quarterly expectations for 3% growth in the second quarter, an 8% increase in the third quarter, and a flat fourth quarter are correct, the global IC market will increase 19% this year, which IC Insights believes is a conservative estimate. Growth is expected to be driven by a 17% surge in IC unit volume shipments and a 1% increase in IC ASPs.

In 2020, the global pandemic accelerated the digital transformation of the worldwide economy, which led to an increase in sales of new electronic systems and a marked uptick in the IC market in the second half of the year, says IC Insights. This demand has continued in the first quarter of 2021. While the Covid-19 situation is still fluid, many semiconductor companies have released strong first quarter guidance and expect healthy demand to continue throughout the year.
