TAIPEI -- Printed circuit board production among Taiwanese board shops rose 9% year-over-year to NT$287.8 billion ($9.3 billion) in the first six months of 2018.
That sum includes for production on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and foreign companies in Taiwan, said the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association, which collected the data.
Sales were up on higher demand for communications products and servers, and also shipments of PCs which grew 1% in the second quarter, reversing a long string of declines. Shipments of flex circuits, rigid-flex boards and HDI boards rose nearly 20%.
Taiwanese factories have benefited this year from more stringent environmental discharge rules in mainland China, which led certain products to be shifted to Taiwan.
TPCA forecast annual sales in 2018 of NT$630.8 billion ($20.4 billion), good for a growth rate of 2%. Analysts said Apple's new phones will not have the same impact as in previous years, in part because average selling prices of Apple's new circuit board are lower than that of the iPhone X.
