TAIWAN - Nanya Printed Circuit Board (NPC) competitor Semco has reportedly gained validation to become the third supplier for Intel’s flip-chip (FC) substrates for 45nm CPU production.
In Q4 2007, NPC and Ibiden were both validated by Intel to supply FC substrates for its 45nm CPUs, while Semco was unable to gain validation at that time due to process issues, according to reports.
In the interim, NPC has benefited from increased orders by Intel, but Semco’s validation has prompted concern at NPC that the new competition will erode its orders.
