SANTA CLARA, CA -- Bare Board Group on Wednesday announced the planned acquisition of Hunter Technology's printed circuit board fabrication operations. The move gives BBG its first board shop after 10 years of distributing PCBs on behalf of other, typically offshore, manufacturers.
Terms were not disclosed.
The companies made the announcement at the PCB West trade show in Santa Clara.
The deal marks a significant shift in approach for BBG, which throughout its 10-year history has concentrated on reselling boards fabricated by other vendors.
This is not the first time Hunter has sold the board shop. In April 2001, Ambitech acquired Hunter, just ahead of the tech meltdown. Four years later, a group of investors led by Hunter's management repurchased the company. Hunter then acquired Spinnaker Microwave, is a provider of RF and microwave components and subassemblies, in September 2011.
Privately held Hunter does not disclose its revenues, which are generally thought to be between $30 million and $40 million a year. The board shop operations represent a minor portion of the overall sales. BBG's sales were $28.6 million in 2011.
