KUNSHAN, CHINA -- Unimicron is building a printed circuit board plant here, its third, to produce high-rel boards.

The new plant will be built in two phases. Initial capacity will be some 220,000 sq. meters of PCBs, with production planned to launch early in 2012. Phase two will add another 220,000 sq. meters of annual capacity. Combined, the new plant will raise the aggregate production capacity to over 600,000 sq. meters a year.

The site will be managed by Ruwel, the Germany-based PCB fabricator with which Unimicron has a longstanding relationship. A new business unit formed to handle high reliability products will oversee the new Kunshan plant. Processes will be developed in Geldern, Germany, then ramped in Kunshan.
