German Board Orders, Sales Rise in March

FRANKFURT – Sales at German printed circuit board fabricators rose 40% year-over-year in March and orders spiked as well, according to the latest market data.

Sales were up 16.7% from February and 29% sequentially for the quarter, according to ZVEI, the German trade group.

For the month, orders were up 19% from February and 113% from last year. Orders were up 25% when compared to the average March results over the past 10 years.

The book-to-bill ratio rose slightly to 1.29, meaning that for every 100 euros worth of boards sold, 129 euros worth of orders were placed.

According to ZVEI, some forecasts call for materials shortages beginning in the third quarter. Laminates in particular could be in short supply, the trade group said.
