TAIPEI, TAIWAN – The deep freeze in notebook HDI board demand is beginning to show signs of thawing, reports DigiTimes.

The development of ultra-thin-and-light form factors is being awakened by strong netbook sales and Intel’s ultra-low voltage (CULV) launch. Some vendors and manufacturers have developed two to three models with HDI boards, while others have models ready for volume production, according to DigiTimes.

Gold Circuit Electronics (GCE) and Dynamic Electronics have seen a recovery in orders for their notebook-use HDI boards, reports DigiTimes.

GCE has seen orders improve since February; Dynamic is forecasting it will begin volume production as early as the second quarter. The company is planning to install HDI monthly capacity of 30,000 to 50,000 square feet.
