TAIPEI, TAIWAN– HannStar Board and Gold Circuit Electronics (GCE) have decided to curtail their expansion projects set for 2009. Sources at the companies report the decision comes after poor order visibility.

HannStar has a monthly production capacity of 5.6 million square feet. This includes 5.1 million square feet produced in China and 500,000 square feet in Taiwan. Based on wastewater treatment capability, the company would be allowed to expand its printed circuit board (PCB) production by up to 400,000 square feet in 2009.

Its PCB shipment goal for notebooks and netbooks has decreased from 62 million units to 60 million. This goal accounts for a 46% of the global market. HannStar estimates its capex to reach no more than NT$1 billion (US$30.2 million) for 2009.

GCE has shelved plans to increase the output of high-density interconnect (HDI) boards. The company has also cut its notebook PCB shipment goal to 30 million, down 3 million (10%) from previous projections.
