FRANKFURT – ZVEI is among 20-plus companies from the mechanical engineering and electrical industry to start the Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) as a user organization for Industry 4.0.

The aim of the association is to bring parallel development strands together to form the industrial digital twin and develop it as an open source solution with member companies. Users benefit from early insights into the digitization of industrial products.

IDTA operates active technology management and coordinates and strengthens the interests and investments of participants.

“The excellence of German and European industry in the development of industrial products is recognized worldwide. Now it is time to design the digital ecosystem around these products worldwide with the same quality standards,” said Hartmut Rauen, deputy GM of VDMA.

“We are facing the unique opportunity to shape digital value creation in the industry for the next few decades through the alliance of mechanical engineering and the electrical industry. And this for the benefit of almost all branches of the economy, from the producer to the end user,” said Gunther Koschnick, ZVEI professional association manager automation.

"We are pleased we are receiving a neutral, but nevertheless industry-oriented, globally effective platform through VDMA and ZVEI, which will bring the core technology of the digital twin for Industry 4.0 to the world as an open source solution," added Frank Melzer, head of the steering committee of the National Platform Industry 4.0.

In addition to ZVEI and VDMA, founding members include ABB, Asentics, Bitkom, Bosch, Bosch Rexroth, Danfoss, Endress + Hauser, Festo, Homag, KUKA, Lenze, Pepperl + Fuchs, Phoenix Contact, SAP, Schneider Electric, Schunk, Siemens, Trumpf, Turck, Volkswagen and Wittenstein.
