OSAKA – Panasonic will increase production of materials used to make equipment compatible with 5G wireless technology in China to meet with expected high demand, according to reports.

Beginning this month, the firm plans to invest about ¥8 billion (US$75 million) to grow its plant in Guangzhou. New lines are planned to begin production in fall 2021, increasing production capacity some 50%.

The company anticipates PCBs and adhesive sheets in which copper foil is deposited on resins being used in 5G base station antennas, servers, and routers.

Panasonic makes the same materials in Japan and Taiwan as well and does not foresee the US-China trade war impacting its PCB materials business, according to reports.
