PORTLAND, OR – Electro Scientific Industries CEO Michael Burger will step down after completion of the pending sale of the firm to MKS Instruments.

The deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2019.

ESI’s Steve Harris will then assume the role of vice president and general manager of the ESI business unit. Harris is currently the company's vice president of engineering. Burger will stay on as a consultant to Harris.

MKS will acquire ESI in a deal valued at $1 billion.
