TAIPEI -- Flex circuit fabricators are lining up for a bite of Apple's pie, but getting a seat at the table might not be as tasty as it appears.

That's the takeaway from a new supply chain report that asserts that Taiwan-based flex makers in Apple's supply chain will likely have to cut prices in order to keep their Japan-based competitors at bay.

PCB fabrication titans Ibiden and Nippon Mektron, two of the six largest fabricators in the world in 2013, are increasing capacity and lowering prices, the report said. The moves come at the expense of Unimicron Technology, Unitech Printed Circuit Board and Compeq, Zhen Ding and Flexium Interconnect, said the report.

Tighter pricing may affect flex circuit maker profitability, the report indicated.
