What does it take to be a successful designer or fabricator of printed circuit boards? What tools, processes and skill sets will be required to keep pace with the next generation of advanced PCBs and electronic platforms?

These are the types of questions being explored this week in Durham, NC, as designers, OEMs, fabricators and suppliers meet at the 12th annual PCB East conference and exhibition being held at the Durham Civic Center. This is the second year the event has been held at this location. Advanced registration was up versus 2006 levels at this same location, a good indication of the show’s continued draw for engineers, designers and fabricators who are looking to stay at the top of their game.

BRUSSELSValor Computerized Systems named FlowCAD and Parallel Systems as distributors in Central and Eastern Europe, and the U.K. and Ireland, respectively.

FlowCAD, based in Germany, offers a complete design flow solution. It was founded from Cadence’s local PCB sales and support organization, and focuses on the local needs of system designers.

Parallel Systems is an EDA distributor in the U.K. and Ireland.

 

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Agilent Technologies Inc. announced it will provide Agilent EDA software, support and training, totaling $13 million, to a new hub of the Georgia Electronic Design Center (GEDC) in Atlanta.

Marlborough, MassDownStream Technologies, LLC announces the release of BluePrint for PCBs, Version 1.8 the latest of DownStream’s software solutions for document driven PCB fabrication, assembly and inspection. According to the company, this release delivers a new ODB++ based interface to Altium Designer, as well as numerous enhancements and quality improvements to increase the product’s usability and stability.
 
“In Version 1.8 we have added the new interface to Altium Designer,” said Rick Almeida, one of DownStream’s Founders. “This now means BluePrint for PCBs has interfaces to all the major PCB CAD systems and completes our strategy of ensuring complete market reach,” he added.  Version 1.8 also extends DownStream’s concept of “rolling releases” by which the company provides its customers a continuous stream of enhancements and improvements.
