GLASGOW -- The University of Glasgow today opened a electronics design center, part of a large scale effort to improve British electronics research.

Funding for the facility -- some 5 million pounds -- came from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Agilent,  National Semiconductor, Fujitsu and other government sources.

WILSONVILLE, ORMentor Graphics and Tongji University will set up a joint lab and technical training center for automotive electronic system design in Shanghai.
 
Mentor Graphics will donate more than $16 million worth of software to Tongji University’s College of Automotive Engineering to support teaching and research programs on vehicle electronics and electric design.
SANTA CLARA - NBS Design adds a comprehensive materials procurement service and appointments a supply chain veteran, Kirk Knudsen as Director of Materials. ARLINGTON, VA – Entries for the International CES Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Awards will be accepted through Sept. 28, the Consumer Electronics Association announced. This annual competition honors outstanding design and engineering in 32 consumer electronics product categories.

WILSONVILLE, ORMentor Graphics Corp., maker of electronic automation systems, announced second quarter revenue of $205.7 million, up 15% year-over-year.
 
Compared to the same period last year, integrated systems design bookings grew 35%; new and emerging bookings grew 5%; scalable verification was down 5%, and IC design to silicon was down 25%, reports Mentor. IC design to silicon is expected to strengthen in the second half, based on a strong renewal pipeline.
 
Year-over-year, bookings for Europe were up 30%; Pacific Rim was flat; North America was down 15%, and Japan was down 30%, says Mentor.
 
During the quarter, the company acquired Sierra Design Automation, provider of high-performance place and route solutions.

For the third quarter, the company expects revenue of approximately $200 million. For 2008, the company expects revenue of approximately $860 million. Preliminary guidance for 2009 is for revenue of $920 million.
SYDNEYAltium Ltd. will hold a series of seminars in 16 cities across the U.S. and Canada in October and November.
