WILSONVILLE, OR -- After two straight quarters of losses, Mentor Graphics is back in the black.
The IC and PCB design software company reported net earnings of $15.3 million for its fiscal third-quarter ended Oct. 31. That's up from a $27 million loss a year ago.
During the period, Mentor also reported record revenues of $238.9 million, on strong growth in emulation, printed circuit board design, design for test, physical verification and automotive networking. The company had guided for revenue of $220 million.
“The strength of our third quarter was broad-based with bookings up 60% over the year ago quarter,” said Wally Rhines, CEO and chairman. “Over 30% of new customers [came] from nontraditional segments."
The third quarter set records for revenue, bookings and product book-to-bill. The results led the firm to raise its full-year guidance to $900 million. It reiterated its fourth-quarter outlook of $290 million.
The company's Integrated Systems Design unit made up 20% of the overall sales in the quarter.
For the quarter, North America was the company's largest segment by revenues, at 50%, up 10 points from the second quarter. Pacific Rim sales fell 10 points from the second quarter, to 15% of total revenue.
