WILSONVILLE, OR -- Mentor Graphics has acquired the Virtual Garage automotive electrical and electronic systems design and management software from Freescale. Terms were not disclosed.

Virtual Garage addresses the tradeoff between value-of-variety and cost-of-complexity caused by optional electronic content, and provision of vehicle-specific design data, such as dynamic electrical schematics, on demand to service networks.

The deal includes relevant intellectual assets, key personnel, and one key commercial contract.

The addition should complement Mentor's product line aimed at design of automotive electrical systems and wire harnesses. In a press release, Mentor's Integrated Electrical Systems Division general manager Martin O’Brien said, “Virtual Garage expands our scope both upstream into product planning, where decisions about product configuration complexity significantly impact long-term costs, and downstream into the key area of online service documentation for dealer networks.”
