WILSONVILLE, OR and
KIRKLAND, WA– Mentor Graphics Corporation has opened the Mentor Graphics Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Design Laboratory at Lake Washington Technical College’s Kirkland campus. The lab will be used to teach PCB design methodologies based on the Mentor Expedition tool flow.
For over three years, Mentor and LWTC have collaborated on the courses being taught at the technical college. To date, a full-semester PCB design curriculum has been offered three times. Technical colleges and universities wanting to provide these courses are able to obtain and implement the materials that have been developed.
Through Mentor’s Higher Education Program (HEP), more than $8 million worth of electronic design automation (EDA) software and support has been donated. Students graduate with a thorough knowledge of the newest PCB design methodologies. “As an EDA technology leader, we understand the importance of all levels of the design flow and see this collaboration as a way to give future engineers greater experience in state-of-the-art tools and methodologies,” said Henry Potts, vice president and general manager of the Systems Design Division at Mentor.
Mentor’s support has given students access to leading edge tools in PCB layout and design. “Many of the skills our students learn in the new laboratory will prepare them to have a direct impact as they enter into the global electronic sector,” explained Paul Axtell, dean of industrial technology.
