ATLANTA, GA – UP Media Group today announced a pair of upcoming webinars aimed at engineers who seek training on designing printed circuit boards.

What Every Design Engineer Should Know About Design for SMT Manufacturability will be held January 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. Eastern. The session will teach how design issues interact with SMT processes, with a focus on how the design affects manufacturing capability and the manufacturing implications of emerging technologies, including BTCs, ultra-miniature passives, and ultra-fine-pitch IC packages.

The course will be taught by Phil Zarrow, an expert on SMT assembly with more than 40 years’ experience with contract assemblers and equipment OEMs.

A Guide to Engineering PCB Design, sponsored by EMA Design Automation, will be held February 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern, with a break for lunch. This session will feature an overview of the processes of board design from an engineering perspective. It looks at the physics of rise time, field energy, and transmission lines; placement and routing; planes and stack-up structure; fanouts; grids; and the signal flow from layer to layer. Special consideration will be paid to HDI technology and BGA setup and routing. All these topics will include information on signal integrity, EMI and impedance control.

The course will be taught by Susy Webb, CID, a senior PCB designer with 35 years’ experience with high-reliability electronics.

Both courses are for design engineers and anyone interested in understanding DfM best practices.
