Cadence Acquires ECAD Library Tools Developer SFM Technology

CHELMSFORD, MA -- Cadence Design has acquired SFM Technology, a developer of ECAD/MCAD library tools.

SFM was founded in 2005 to provide products and services to support critical technical needs in the electronics design and manufacturing industry, as well as to commercialize ongoing research activities of the company founders in the domains of product data modeling and printed circuit manufacturability and testability analysis. Its DFXpert product suite is based on technology licensed from the University of Illinois.

In a statement, Cadence CEO Lip-Bu Tan called the acquisition of SFM "an important step toward expanding our System Design enablement strategy into mechatronics.
