The Orange County chapter joins up, and a new PCEA chairman is named.

In this month’s column, I highlight the Orange County Chapter’s recent meeting and its transition from IPC to Printed Circuit Engineers Association affiliation, recent PCEA activities, and the evolution of this column, including introducing Kelly Dack, CID+, PCEA's new communications officer.

Orange County Chapter

Scott McCurdy, president

The Orange County Chapter is doing very well in Southern California and has been active for 18-plus years. We are proudly the largest active chapter in existence, based on attendance at our quarterly meetings. We average 50 to 65 attendees at our meetings, and occasionally have 80 or more in attendance. In our most recent meeting, held Jan. 21 at the Harvard Athletic Park multipurpose room, we had an outstanding crowd of 80 people in attendance to hear the educational presentation by Gerry Partida, a senior field application engineer for Summit Interconnect.

In this month’s column, we’ll take a first look at the new Printed Circuit Engineering Association (PCEA), including an overview of membership and why we established the organization.

We’ll also look at the mission of PCEA, and how it will unfold to the industry.

Membership. PCEA is an international network of engineers, designers, and specialists related to printed circuit development. We are a mixed group of individuals that covers the entire product development cycle. There are no limitations or restrictions as to who can become a member. Membership is free and open to all those interested in gaining and sharing their knowledge with others. We will serve the industry as a nonprofit organization.

Reports from San Diego, RTP and AltiumLive.

As the second half of the year is quickly passing by, we have seen many continued activities in our industry regarding PCB design. From the PCB West conference held in mid-September in Santa Clara, CA, which was another huge success and always exceeds expectations, to AltiumLive 2019 held in early November in San Diego; both events were hugely successful and had great turnouts. We also have had some activity within our local IPC Designers Council (DC) chapters, such as the San Diego Chapter, which held its final chapter meeting for the year in late September. Here is a brief breakdown of these recent fall activities.
