TAIPEI -- Taiwanese PCB fabricators recorded record revenues of NT$249 billion ($8.20 billion) in the third quarter, the Taiwan Printed Circuit Association (TPCA) announced.

Smartphones, servers and automotive PCBs drove the sector to its highest third-quarter mark ever, offset in part by lower demand for boards for consumer electronics.

About 90% of the sales were from publicly traded companies. rigid PCBs and IC substrates accounted for about 68% and flexible circuits about 32%.

ABF-based substrates increased about 40% year-over-year due to higher demand for high-performance computing products (HPC). Flex demand was higher as buyers ramped purchases of high-end smartphones and notebooks.

TPCA forecast fourth quarter PCB revenues of NT$264 billion, up 6.1% sequentially and 9.8% from a year ago. For the year, TPCA forecasts sales will rise 14% to NT$933.3 billion.
