MIDLAND, MI -- Dow Chemical reported sales at its Electronic and Functional Materials unit rose 6% over last year. EBITDA at the unit, which makes materials for printed circuit boards and other end-products, was up 5% for the period ended Sept. 30.
Electronic and Functional Materials sales were $1.2 billion on volume growth of 6%, offset in part by a 1% price decline. Dow Electronic Materials delivered healthy volume gains due to ongoing strong demand for OLED materials in mobile devices, as well as share gains in functional films, partially offset by a weaker Japanese yen.
Equity earnings for the segment were $36 million, up $9 million from the third quarter of last year, driven primarily by Dow Corning. EBITDA increased to $287 million, up $14 million over the same quarter last year, due to sales growth, as well as healthy margins resulting from tight cost controls.
The company generated $1.4 billion in cash flow from operations in the quarter, up 27% versus the year-ago period. Overall sales were $13.7 billion, up 1%.
