TAIPEI – Smartphone proliferation is expected to significantly increase rigid-flex PCB demand by the end of the year and into 2011, according to an analyst from the Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center.
An estimated 180 million smartphones are expected to be shipped this year, says the analyst.
Flexible PCB makers have been the first to produce rigid-flex, which reaches faster transmission speeds by reducing the amount of connectors. The price remains high, and yield rates are difficult to control because of lengthy production.
Taiwan PCB makers are ramping to meet the market demand, and such companies as Uniflex-KS, Unitech Printed Circuit Board, Career Technology and Gold Circuit Electronics have recently entered the rigid-flex PCB market.
