HONG KONG -- A pair of importers have been found guilty of violating local waste disposal laws after bringing in discarded printed circuit boards from Indonesia.

The two men were fined $15,000 for violating contravening the Waste Disposal Ordinance.

Local authorities confiscated two containers of illegally imported hazardous electronic waste (e-waste) last September. Prior to being caught, the waste PCBs were headed to China. The government instead returned the containers to Indonesia.

The market value of the intercepted hazardous e-waste was about $370,000, according to reports.
