SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEM) reports that it has developed the world’s first MLCC with a capacitance value of 1 μF in a 0603 package.

The product offers 10 times the capacitance of a standard 0603 0.1μF MLCC and is 80% smaller than the 1005 1μF version, according to the company.

Driven by increase demands for handheld products, SEM is focusing its resources on the ultra-small segments. It has tripled output capacity for MLCCs in 0603 and smaller packages.

Hur Kang-heon, vice president of the SEM LCR Development Team, said, “Our development of this new MLCC version allows us to lead the market for value-added MLCCs, and we are targeting makers of smartphones, which are in very high demand right now, and other B2B segments.”

Mass production is planned for April.
