SAN JOSE -- Electronic design automation sales hit $1.22 billion in the second quarter, up 8.7% from a year ago.
Sequentially, revenue fell 1.9%, the EDA Consortium today announced, while the 365-day moving average rose 0.1%.
For the quarter, printed circuit board and multichip module revenue increased 12.6% year-over-year to $119.1 million. The 365-day moving average for PCB and MCM tools was essentially flat.
"Second quarter results showed increases in all categories compared to 2009, with double-digit increases in SIP and PCB/MCM," said Wally Rhines, EDAC chair and chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics. "Geographically, the Americas, Europe/Middle East/Africa region, and Asia/Pacific all increased relative to 2009, with the Americas and Europe/Middle East/Africa also increasing [sequentially]."
Tracked companies employed 25,968 professionals in the quarter, down 0.5% sequentially and 1.3% from last year.
Computer-aided engineering reported revenue of $458.8 million, up 2% from 2009, IC Physical Design and Verification revenue increased 0.2% to $271.2 million, and semiconductor intellectual property (SIP) sales was up 35.3% to $299.8 million. Services revenue was $74 million, down 4.8%.
By region, the Americas purchased $516.8 million of EDA products and services, up 1.5%. Revenue in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa was up 6.7% to $226.6 million, Japan fell 1% to $215.5 million, and the Asia/Pacific increased 41.7% to $263.9 million.
