SHENZHEN -- Local workers may have more reason to cheer as news reports are saying the minimum monthly wages will rise 13.3% early next spring.

The reports indicate starting salaries would rise from RMB1,500 ($236) to RMB1,700 in the  February-March time frame, reported DigiTimes, citing Taiwan-based notebook makers.

China has provincial minimum wage rates. Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen are the three highest of the larger metro areas. With insurance and benefits, total compensation for minimum wage workers is about RMB2,700-2,800.
