WEST HAVEN, CT -- Enthone Inc. has begun construction on a plating applications laboratory here, with a operations scheduled to begin in September.

The site will evaluate and validation Enthone processes prior to beta-site field testing, conduct training and process capability demonstrations, identify and implement processing methodologies, and perform collaborative plating work with key customers.

SUNNYVALE, CA – A new “reverse order” interconnection method describes a way to produce a finished electronics assembly with neither solder nor a circuit board. The method, tentatively called the “Occam Process,” is a way to build an electronics assembly using mature core processing technologies in a novel sequence.

What’s more, says the inventor, the end-product is expected to be more reliable than previous solder-free strategies (e.g., using conductive adhesive as a solder substitute) or traditionally manufactured soldered assemblies.

HAMPSTEAD, NH – P.D. Circuits Inc., a leading PWB distributor, has completed Phase 1 of its China PWB Supply Chain Management group development. In the program's first year, the company hired a group manager, registered the company, established an office in Shenzhen, and set up its initial China bare board inspection facility.

Since that time, P.D. Circuits has added an operations manager, a process engineer and QC inspectors. Two of the new employees have also certified to IPC-A-600G and initiated training and inspection visits to P. D.’s manufacturing partners.

VIENNA – PCB fabricator AT&S reported first-quarter revenues of $157.7 million, up 9% year-over-year.

SAN JOSE — Jure Sola, CEO of Sanmina-SCI, told analysts last night that the company was done shuttering PWB facilities for the year.

Once the world's largest PWB fabricator, since 2001 Sanmina-SCI has closed several facilities and seen its market share and PWB revenues erode dramatically. The company recently took measures to shutter plants in Stuttgart, Germany, and Phoenix, where the former Continental Circuits plant acquired by Sanmina in 1999 will be closed later this month.

"These are the last shutdowns in our printed circuit board factories," Sola remarked. "Restructuring of this business is finally behind us."

OTTAWA – Process Photonics today announced a flexible moving probe for laser trimming and testing circuit boards. The company has filed a provisional patent application for the technology, which is headed for customer trials and expected to be available in the fourth quarter.
