WALLINGFORD, CT -- Amphenol today reported first-quarter net income ticked down to $126.6 million, from $128 million a year ago.
For the period ended March 31, sales rose 4.4% from last year and 3% sequentially to $982 million as demand for automotive, commercial aerospace, broadband communications and industrial offset declines in defense and wireless. Currency translation had the effect of lowering sales by approximately $4 million.
Operating income was also lower at $185.3 million, down from $186.1 million last year. Operating margin was up 40 basis points to 18.9%. The company recorded an all-time high in orders of $1.028 billion in the quarter.
Sales of interconnect products, including connectors and printed circuit boards, were up 34.8% year-over-year.
Chief executive and president Adam Norwitt said Amphenol expects second quarter revenues of $1.04 billion to $1.055 billion, and full-year revenues of $4.105 billion to $4.19 billion, up from previous company estimates of $4.05 billion to $4.15 billion.
