WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- German authorities have given Platform Specialty Products the go-ahead for its $2.1 billion purchase of Alent.

Platform said the Federal Cartel Office in Germany gave the firm antitrust clearance to buy the printed circuit board and semiconductor materials company.

Platform announced the pending acquisition in mid July.

The acquisition is expected to close in late 2015 or early 2016, pending approvals from the UK court and certain other closing conditions and approvals, including regulatory approvals in various other jurisdictions.

Alent's business comprises two business segments: Enthone, a supplier of surface chemistry and electroplating materials to the electronics, automotive and industrial industries, and Alpha, which makes solder and other interconnect materials, primarily for electronics.

As of today, in addition to the approval in Germany, Platform has received notice of the early termination of the antitrust waiting period under the US Hart-Scott Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act and approval from the South Korean regulatory authorities.

Following closing, Platform will remain a New York Stock Exchange listed company domiciled in the US.
