Printed Circuit Design & Fab Online Magazine - Electronic Components Sales Sentiment Stabilizes in June

ATLANTA – The overall electronic components sales sentiment improved by four points in June after a 14.5-point collapse in May, but the 76.3 index score for June is still below last year's average, ECIA reported in its monthly Electronic Component Sales Trend survey.

"Hope continues to spring eternal as the outlook for the July index improves by nearly eight points to 84.2," said ECIA Chief Analyst Dale Ford, author of the report. "The primary driver of the improvement in the overall index is the Semiconductor measurement. The overall trend in index results in 2023 point to an extended market recovery period with a turnaround in year-over-year growth coming at the end of 2023 at the earliest."

Semiconductors saw its index score drop by more than nine points in both April and May, but the June score rebounded by nearly nine points and the outlook is for a 10.4-point improvement in July. Passives are also recovering but have a long way to go to recover from May's 23.7-point drop. The index for Electro-Mechanical components basically remained flat in June but the outlook for July sees improvement of more than five points.

While the July outlook is reasonably hopeful, the experience of a major miss in expectations in the May index counsels caution, Ford reported. The overall trend in index results in 2023 point to an extended market recovery period with a turnaround in year-over-year growth coming at the end of 2023 at the earliest.

The monthly and quarterly ECST reports present data in detailed tables and figures with multiple perspectives and covering current sales expectations, sales outlook, product cancellations, product decommits and product lead times.
